Biography

Samuel Johnson was born and grew up in Alexandria, Virginia, but came to North Carolina to attend Davidson College.  He fell in love with North Carolina and although his career has repeatedly carried him away from the Old North State, he is delighted to have now returned and to be making his home in Greensboro.

Since college he has pursued two careers, mathematics and law.  His graduate work in mathematics was done at Duke, the University of Pennsylvania, and the University of Heidelberg in Germany, with his Ph. D. being awarded from Duke.  As a mathematician he has taught at Gallaudet University in Washington, DC, the world's only institution all of whose undergraduate students are deaf, at Guilford College in Greensboro, and at Bradley University in Peoria, Illinois.  He also has served on the faculty of the Santa Fe campus of St. John's College, famous for its Great Books program, where he taught across their curriculum including philosophy, literature, history, scientific method, mathematics and ancient Greek.

He has studied law at Wake Forest University and Yale University, receiving his J.D. degree from Yale.  He practiced law in Washington, DC for three years, primarily in the area of federal administrative law.  Most of that work involved representing municipal airports from across the country before the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA).  He now has his own practice, focused on serving individuals and small businesses in their every-day legal needs.
